Food Cooking and Preparation

In emergencies, alternate your cooking sources with things like chafing dishes, fondue pots, candle warmers, or a fireplace.

Reserve charcoal grills or camp stoves for using outdoors only. You donít have to warm commercially canned food.

Heating food in a can:
  • Take off the label.
  • Wash and disinfect the can thoroughly. (Use the diluted solution of ten parts water with one part bleach.)
  • Make sure you open the can before you heat.
One of the most important aspects of cooking during a disaster is food food safety and sanitation.
