Emergency Planning for High-Rise Buildings

  • Know where to find the closest emergency exit.
  • Have back up options in case your first choice exit is blocked.
  • Take cover under a table or desk if things around you are falling.
  • Move away from things that could fall like file cabinets, bookshelves, etc.
  • Donít face windows and glass.
  • Move toward the center, away from exterior walls.
  • Determine if you need to get away or shelter in place.
  • Listen for the instructions and be sure to follow them.
  • Unless you think it is contaminated, take the emergency supply kit.
  • Never use the elevators.
  • Since emergency workers will be coming up the stairs, stay to the right as you go down.
